You wade neck-deep through forms and documents, fill them out\u00a0with what you hope is an acceptable shade of ink and appropriate font, somehow succeed in getting that elusive photo of your infant sitting upright, and\u00a0stand in line for hours feeling yourself age.\u00a0In fact, the entire process leaves you certain that the only thing worse than applying for a passport\u00a0is having to do it twice.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, some\u00a0Canadian parents have had to do just that because they signed their child&#8217;s passport\u2014either by mistake, or at the insistence\u00a0of an\u00a0airline or border official. Turns out, that little twitch of the pen actually invalidates the passport. So next time\u00a0you&#8217;re are at the check-in counter\u2014freshly marinated in sunscreen for that tropical getaway\u2014you may not get to board\u00a0until you replace\u00a0the ruined passport, buy new tickets, and reapply the sunscreen. DANGER!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Consider\u00a0taking a copy of the official passport instructions with you when you travel\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cic.gc.ca\/english\/passport\/pickup.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(available here)<\/a>. In the event an airline or border official asks you to sign your child&#8217;s passport, you can present these and hopefully pass with your document intact, saving you time, money and sunscreen.<\/p>\n<p><em>Considerations:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This rule applies to Canadian passports. The requirements may be different for those\u00a0issued by other countries.
